Everything we recommend on our site, every tool and service is used by us. Luckily for us we monitor the speed of our site using StatusCake, this morning we started getting alerts that our site was running slower than expected. a quick check of the logs showed consistent traffic from a single IP address constantly trying to access the xmlrpc.php. We do not use XMLRPC on our site and it is disabled via our security plugin.
Once armed with this information it was easy to configure Plesk to drop all connections from this IP address and everything returned to normal and PageSpeed results are back to where they normally are.
